La mayor\u00eda de los refrigerantes para motores pesados del mercado eran de formulaci\u00f3n convencional. La \u00fanica diferencia estaba en el tipo y la cantidad de inhibidores, pero segu\u00edan siendo compatibles entre s\u00ed. Algunas marcas eran una mezcla de nitrito\/silicato\/borato, mientras que otras pod\u00edan ser una mezcla de nitrito\/molibdeno\/silicato\/fosfato. Mantener el refrigerante significaba simplemente mantener el nivel de SCA. Las formulaciones convencionales utilizan inhibidores inorg\u00e1nicos. Las formulaciones OAT utilizar\u00e1n inhibidores de \u00e1cido org\u00e1nico y pueden utilizar una combinaci\u00f3n de nitrito y molibdeno en la formulaci\u00f3n. Las formulaciones NAPS s\u00f3lo utilizar\u00e1n inhibidores de \u00e1cidos org\u00e1nicos. Las formulaciones HOAT y Universal utilizar\u00e1n una combinaci\u00f3n de inhibidores de \u00e1cidos inorg\u00e1nicos y org\u00e1nicos.
